Determining best Markers of Treatment for Depression and ADHD
The largest marker discovery program conducted by Brain Resource is now underway. The “International Study to Predict Optimized Treatment” (‘iSPOT’) is about enhancing the diagnosis, classification and treatment of psychiatric conditions by identifying evidence-based diagnostic and treatment predictive markers.
Successful identification of these markers could have widespread benefit by providing significant cost and treatment efficiencies. Currently, clinicians rely on the highly subjective observation of signs and symptoms to diagnose conditions and select treatment options. Identification of more objective markers could allow clinicians to target a patient’s disease and match the right treatment to the individual person.
In addition, the identification of objective diagnostic and treatment response markers has the potential to enhance results of clinical drug trials by providing pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies the means to identify and enrol the appropriate patient population(s) and more accurately assess treatment outcomes.
iSPOT is currently focused on two important therapeutic areas: Major Depressive Disorder (iSPOT-D) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (iSPOT-A). The program will be conducted at approximately 30 international sites including the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, South Africa, England and New Zealand and will acquire integrative data from 4,000 subjects.
